Nice to meet you. I'm Brooklyn Beckdol

Gosh, this is really happening...

I grew up running barefoot, through the forests and rocky beaches of the Pacific Northwest. Thrown over my shoulder, a satchel with notebooks and pens. I've written in journals, notebooks, perched in a cherry tree, hiding in the pantry, or sitting on driftwood. I wrote poetry, philosophical essays, secret letters. I recorded memories I never wanted to forget, for myself. Always for me, rarely shared.

In my current home, I've got bookshelves filled with my own scribblings and musings. A handful of glittery, large margin spiral bounds from my childhood. A half a dozen 3-ring binders from adolescence, and the slimmer and more elegant notebooks and sketchbooks from my 20's. All for me. I never felt worthy to share any of it.

A few (small t) traumatic events, lots of healing and years later, I'm starting to realize that my fears are not worth listening to, if they keep me from living. My stumbling words, my memories, my simple life is worth sharing, if only to crack open my heart wide open. Now, I am sitting at the precipice of my 30th birthday, and am about to publish my first book with the world - a book about my history, my grandparents, my lovely little life...

I've never felt so alive, never felt more vulnerable.

Well, shit! Here goes nothing!

Hi, I'm Brooklyn. I'm thrilled and terrified to present my book - to share who I am with the world, in hopes it makes others like me feel seen and loved. In hopes to make my grandmother's proud.

Thank you, dear reader, for making my dreams come true.

so let's keep in touch!

In My Grandma Era, exploring how the wisdom and traditions of my grandparents helped find quiet contentment in our 30’s

This nonfiction book is part memoir, part self-care manual, part philosophical exploration on how our traditional values and simple living can make the busiest years of our lives more meaningful and lovely. A collection of memories and stories of my grandparents, with practical examples of how to incorporate traditional values, skills and wisdom into modern living.

This is first and foremost a love letter to my grandparents. Adorned with all the unexpressed love and appreciation, like delicate flower petals pressed into the pages. If you read carefully, you might be able to smell grandma’s famous chocolate cake, or grandpa’s worn leather gloves.

When I first walked into my kitchen, it was a disaster. Mold growing in the fridge, a squirrel living above my sink (true story), and this smell... But slowly, it's becoming the cottage core kitchen of my dreams...

grandma core is trending

Here's what #grannycore looks like: brassy fixtures, eclectic patterns, antiques, vintage things and wood grain. But to me, it's much more than an aesthetic! People who embrace all parts of the trend are finding that life feels a bit lighter, a bit rosier, a bit healthier...
